“Stunning Hermosa Hacienda”

Welcome to this gorgeous and unique Hermosa Hills Hacienda! The Doody residence is a Spanish Revival style home that was custom built in 2006 by Maril Anello and Architect, Jay Stephenson. This is a spacious 4,200 square foot, 5 bedroom and 4 bath home. With 3 kids, a black lab and a kitty cat, this house is always bustling, energetic, and full of fun and lots of love. The Doodys embrace entertaining and holiday gatherings and this home exemplifies it!

The owner, Kari, decorated this home with a combination of custom designed pieces, antiques, and special bargain finds from the internet and flea markets. She loves mixing old and new, expensive with inexpensive, and traditional with eclectic and modern. The fusion of these simple design elements with exotic Moroccan, Spanish, and Asian influences become this wonderful global and chic home. Kari was excited to bring in a designer to help her essentially “wrap up” the home with special finishing touches. Adrienne Mascaro, from Studio Blu, took on the task and completely re-designed the guest bedroom. She also re-arranged and beautifully accessorized the rest of the home with small furnishings, artwork, and fun accessories.  Creatively, she was able to enhance the initial vision and finalize this incredible decorating project to create an amazing space that reflects the homeowners’ desires. The Holiday décor and florals were exquisitely crafted by Magical Blooms and all the bathrooms were accessorized and beautified by Gum Tree.

Upon arrival the carved front door from Arte de Mexico draws you in to this eclectic and exquisite home. Mexican paver tiles greet you at the entrance and custom wrought iron stair railings cascade up and around the upper level. The dining room floor was created with one-of-a-kind handmade Moroccan tiles. Custom tiles are also used on the stair risers, kitchen backsplash, fireplace surrounds, and all the bathrooms. Distressed dark-wood floors are throughout the rest of the home. The Spanish style acrylic paintings gracing the walls were painted by Kari’s mother. The formal living room awaits you with large, folding slider doors that beckon you to the outdoor loggia and beyond. Moroccan lanterns hanging overhead add a sexy exotic flair.  What a wonderful space for a party! Upstairs you will find the children’s rooms to be fun and vibrant, perfectly showcasing their individual personalities. The predominately white palette in the master retreat creates a calming oasis for Mr. and Mrs. Doody. The entire family can watch the sunrise or cozy up to a warm fire on the attached outdoor loggia.

The Doody’s needs, taste and lifestyle are perfectly captured in this artfully-designed, Spanish home that embodies stylish simplicity while radiating worldly charm and flair!

” Elegant Manhattan Hill Section Tuscan Villa”

Welcome to the Goldenberg home!  This spacious, bi-level Tuscan style home features 5 bedrooms and 4 ½ baths in 4,400 square feet.  Designed by architect Doug Leach, the home was built in 2001 by General Contractor Mike Davis.  Since purchasing the home in 2005, the family elegantly decorated it with personal touches reflecting their custom style.  In 2009, the family wanted to update the existing classic and refined décor to meet the changing needs of their young family.  The homeowners employed the help of local designers Fowler & Moore Interiors, Caroline Burke Designs and Norman Design Group to transform the look and feel of the home into a place more reflective of their new lifestyle.

As you enter the home and ascend the center staircase you will notice the vaulted, custom painted ceiling.  From the stairs your eye is immediately drawn into the dining room and the formal living room.  These spaces were tastefully furnished and festively decorated for the holidays by Caroline Burke of Caroline Burke Designs.  Caroline’s goal in designing these rooms was to enhance the existing style by adding pieces that would increase the functionality.  By adding more comfortable seating and introducing a new, more casual color palate, Caroline has revamped the seldom used formal living room into a relaxed place the family loves to gather.  Through the oversized kitchen you will notice the chic, yet comfortable look of the family room.  Great care was taken by Phil Norman of Norman Design Group in designing this room to ensure that the room was both stylish, yet family friendly.  This included bringing in softer, baby friendly furniture and a more practical seating arrangement.  Beyond the living room, the focal point of the upstairs is the french doors which open onto the stunning backyard oasis.  Complete with fire pit, this backyard was designed with a unique Mexican flair to resemble the location of the couple’s wedding.

As you continue on the tour you will notice several custom murals.  These beautiful works of art were uniquely designed and painted by Nichole Blackburn of Celadon Studio.   On the main floor are 4 of the 5 bedrooms and Chris Fowler and Suzie Moore of Fowler & Moore Interiors worked closely with the homeowners to make them a true retreat.  The guest room has been completely transformed from an office into a functional and stylish extra bedroom and the master suite was refined to create a romantic hideaway.  The designers also updated the look and feel of the bathrooms with new wallpaper and accessories.  Stunning holiday florals and decorations from The Yellow Vase finish off the look of this warm, comfortable and well-designed home.

This tasteful, yet comfortably designed home is now the perfect place for the Goldenberg’s to watch their family grow!

“Magnificent Martyrs Hill Home”

Situated in the prized American Martyrs section of Manhattan Beach, this Tuscan-style villa exudes warmth and beauty reminiscent of Old World Italy. The exquisite taste of the homeowners, John and Heather Devereux, is reflected in this stunning home custom designed by Tomaro Design Group and built in 2007. It boasts 3,600 square feet of living space plus a basement, 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and an elevator accommodating 3 floors, as well as 3 fireplaces, a pool with Jacuzzi, and a 3 car garage. The Devereux’s fine taste and attention to details is reflected in the many special features such as the custom stain glass window designed by Heather and Lisa from Allen Kenoyer Glass, the unique woodwork of His Life Woodworks, including coffered ceilings with hand-made molding individually inserted and stained, custom cabinetry, and custom, hand-scraped and distressed walnut floors. The rustic floors are offset with smooth, complexly designed floors in the dining room. Extraordinary amenities include superior stone and tile work, a gourmet kitchen, tailored functional storage, heated master bath floor
ing, and built-in outdoor patio heating lamps.

With all of these beautiful features, the Devereux family still welcomed designers into their home to refine the style and “pull everything together” with beautifully-crafted, eco-friendly pieces by Cisco Home, accents by Tabula Rasa Essentials, and portraits by Kat Monk Studio.  Designer Yvonne Welch of Welch & Associates further enhanced the home by incorporating a variety of design elements, applications, and mediums to deliver a vibrant contrast to the warm, dark woods and elements typically found in Tuscan style homes. She filled the dining room with pieces that are elegant yet comfortable for entertaining friends and family. The library is now the perfect retreat to enjoy books and board games. For the living room, she created a livable space that embraces the beach life that is just steps away and brought out the creativity all children dream about for their rooms. The bonus room was revitalized as a cozy retreat to relax, taking advantage of the custom made walnut and stain glass bar, while family and guests shoot some pool. She transformed the extra bedroom into an inviting oasis of luxury for guests. Nichole Blackburn of Celadon Studios brought the walls and ceilings to life with custom murals and high-end decorative wall finishes. Nancy Nelson of Stitch Window Wear tailored window treatments with rich and complex fabrics and colors. Deep Roots Florist gave the home a beautiful festive look for the holidays both inside and out.

Mr. and Mrs. Devereux have built an ideal setting for their four active young children, two dogs and cat. Their passion for living life and their desire to create an environment for celebrating family and friends is reflected in this warm, casual, yet elegant villa at the beach.

“Spectacular Strand Bonus Home”

Embrace the panoramic ocean views from this stunning Manhattan Beach Strand home.  Completely renovated in 2006, this 4,600 square foot contemporary, beach-front home was designed to capitalize on its surroundings.  The owner, Jim Griffiths, worked closely with architect and builder Dave Baldwin to create a true sense of indoor / outdoor living.   The team accomplished this goal while remaining conscientious about the environment and the community.  During the renovation, the owner brought in “The ReUse People” to make sure that pieces of the home were salvaged and donated to Habitat for Humanity for reuse.   The overall design theme of the home was done with a Balinese-inspired aesthetic in mind and was thoughtfully furnished and decorated by Mary Hocking of Reaney Design Company.

The focal point of the home’s entryway is the amazing 1,000 gallon salt-water aquarium which is home to over 75 tropical fish and boasts the title of L.A. County’s tallest aquarium in a private home.  Just off the entryway, make your way through the sound proof mahogany door to the home’s master suite.  This room is highlighted by the unique bed which features a wood canopy providing hidden lights.  As you continue up the stairs you will get a true sense of the home’s design concept focused on a seamless flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces.   The stone travertine marble floors extend from the kitchen all the way outside linking the living spaces while the German imported glass door system can be configured to completely fold away.   The living room is highlighted by the custom, hand-carved fireplace surround imported from Bali.   As you move outside you will notice the Jacuzzi, which is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the ocean view, the fireplace, and the flat screen TV.  It also features a privacy glass that clouds at the push of a button.   Continuing the theme of first class entertainment is the media room.  This room features a 120” projection TV with a “strand cam” that serves as a window to the ocean and life on the strand, further bringing the outdoors in.  Beyond the media room is the guest wing of the home designed as a distinct and separate section to provide guests privacy
from the main living areas.   The lower floor of the home is all about entertaining!  It includes a 400 bottle, walk-in, refrigerated wine cellar; a full service spa including a solid teak sauna, massage room and wet shower custom designed by Trilogy Spa; and a sports bar with dual Plasma TV’s and fully stocked bar.

With its beautiful beach-front location, Zen inspired design, and focus on entertainment, this home is the perfect place for Mr. Griffiths to relax to a beautiful sunset, play with his adorable dog Cody, or host his family and friends!
