As a South Bay native, I always felt I had a good connection with my community. However, after having two kids, I discovered a desire to become more involved and find a way to volunteer. Joining a friend at the Prospective Member Reception in 2011, I quickly realized that Sandpipers’ connections to local agencies suited my needs to give back in my hometown. I expected to work with talented and dedicated peers, but what I discovered during my first year was much more than that - a group of inspiring and supportive women that had quickly become amazingfriends! In the beginning, much of my experience had been heavily involved in the fundraising side of the organization, overseeing showcased homes and as Director of the Holiday Homes Tour, a personal favorite. I enjoyed working to raise funds to support our efforts and familiarize our community neighbors with Sandpipers’ mission. I feel that empowering others to find their strengths and passion within Sandpipers is just as meaningful as finding my own.

I look forward to continuing to encourage our members to find their place within the organization and their reason for volunteering this year as Senior Past President. I will have the honor of chairingour Scholarship Committee, carrying on the program that was started in 1941, and is the oldest continuing scholarship program in the South Bay. This program is a great example for our members and the community of whywe do what we do.
