We are thrilled to announce the creation of Sandpiper Pipers in 2018. Pipers is a philanthropic group for middle school age girls and their moms under the Sandpipers’ umbrella. The primary purpose of the group is to encourage seventh and eighth graders to better their community and the lives of those less fortunate in the South Bay. While empowering the girls to make decisions on the group’s philanthropic efforts, Pipers also provides opportunities for moms to mentor their daughters through community service as Mom Mentors.
The group started with three Sandpipers moms, Heather Interian, Lara Protiva, and Summer Sheets who saw a need for an opportunity to give back along with their daughters. The organization’s Bylaws govern their association with Sandpipers. Support is provided by Pipers Class Leaders (who are active Sandpipers) and Sandpipers Liaison who keep Sandpipers’ Board apprised of the group’s activities. Pipers are committed to philanthropy, outreach and community service projects.
Community service projects support agencies such as Harbor Interfaith Services, the LoveJoy Foundation, Sunrise Assisted Living, Cancer Support Community, and several community service programs including Sandpiper-led programs such as the Sugarplum Tree Program and Holiday Baskets.
While the classes are filled for the 2019 – 20 year, we will be hosting Membership Information Meetings in May 2020 for those interested in joining for the 2020 – 21 year. Incoming seventh graders in the South Bay are eligible. Incoming eighth graders in the South Bay are eligible, space permitting.
